Salivary Characteristics of Down's Syndrome Children- A Review

A positive correlation between salivary characteristics and Caries resistance in Children has been reported in literature. Such a correlation is also observed in Down’s syndrome population. The aim of this study is to gather recent information about various salivary characterestics of Down’s syndrome children. It includes physical, chemical and ionic properties. Characteristics like Amylase and peroxidase, Protection and Lubrication, Buffering Capacity and pH of saliva, salivary flow, sIgA, Antimicrobial peptides and ionic composition.
